Spectacular garden - one of the most intetesting designs for a town garden I've ever seen. You can visit just the garden for a donation on Tues and Weds - I went back 3 times (once just to sit and read my book).

Wee gem of house and Japanese garden owned by National Trust for Scotland. Home of artist EA Hornel who visited Japan twice. Enchanting. Many people dwell on bench at bottom of garden with lovely views over river Dee. Good visit to combine with Kircudbright art gallery and a walk by the Harbourside

interesting house and beautiful garden. very surprised by the art works, as I only came for the garden, but the large gallery room with Hornels paintings was amazing.

Stumbled onto these gardens while trying to find a footpath along the river. While I'm not particularly a garden enthusiast my parents are and they loved it. You make a small donation to have a wander around and its well worth it. It's well maintained, well run and has an interesting variation of footpaths and types of garden. There are lots of plants and flowers I have no idea of the names of but look fantastic and we'll cared for. Of more interest to me are the views of the river, a collection of antique curling stones and enough sundials to wonder if the original owner was lacking a watch. Definitely worth a visit if your passing by.

Not really my cup of tea but an interesting view into a successful artists residence, with an intricate garden and surprisingly ostentatious gallery room.
